Wildcat: Why are you running for vice president of clubs and organizations?

Russell: I enjoy helping out in ASUA. I like helping out the clubs and helping them get funding.

WC: What are the three most important things you would like to see accomplished while you are in office?

R: I would like to increase communication with the clubs by producing a monthly or bi-monthly newsletter to let them know things like how much money is left in their budget and to publicize club fundraisers. There seems to be a lot of miscommunicat ion. I'd like to restock and renovate the Club Resource Center, and I'd like to compile a one page, step-by-step process that clubs will have to follow in order to simplify the funding process.

WC: What changes would you like to see made in next semester's ASUA budget?

R: I'd like to make more clubs and organizations aware of their funding, so funds can be distributed more evenly. They are not funded automatically. Funding has to be approved by the Appropriations Board.

WC: There has recently been talk about the Department of Student Programs taking over some of ASUA's clubs and organizations. What would you do while in office to ensure that these programs remained part of ASUA's agenda?

R: I would work with them as much as possible, instead of working against them. The department is in charge of recognizing all clubs and organizations, ASUA is in charge of funding, but we can work together with programming and recruitment.

Wildcat: Why are you running for vice president of programs and services?

McCollum: Because I think IÍm one of the most qualified candidates, with my experience as a senator. I'm very motivated and I'm good at motivating others.

WC: What are the three most important things you would like to see accomplished while you are in office?

M: Spring Fling has always been a tradition at the UA. I will fight to keep it on campus by speaking out to the administration. I will expand the Escort Service and increase fundraising for this service. I will assist in the restructuring of ASUA's programs and services. This department has grown beyond the point of efficiency.

WC: What changes would you like to see made in next semester's ASUA budget? What areas do you feel are most important for student funding?

M: As far as the budget for programs and services, I think funds need to be expanded for Spring Fling and the Escort Service. We could cut down in other areas to give more money to these two programs.

WC: Are there any programs and services you feel should be modified, deleted from or added to ASUA's budget?

M: I think ASUA should move media relations back to public affairs, and they should take special events back to the Senate because that is where it originated from. One idea I have for an addition to programs and services is career services. It could originate in the Senate and then move to programs and services.

Wildcat: Why are you running for vice president of programs and services?

Romero: Basically to carry out my goals and my strong belief in student government for students - to serve students. I feel I could do a great job, and my experience will help me.

WC: What are the three most important things you would like to see accomplished while in office?

R: To continue to work on the expansion and renovation of the Student Union. To create partnerships with existing programs and services with campus organizations and students. To enhance funding for the ASUA Escort Service.

WC: What changes would you like to see made in next semester's ASUA budget? What areas do you feel are most important for student funding?

R: More money to Escort Service. I realize the importance for men and women to get home safe. That's why I'm so set that it's well-funded and can carry out its duties. I want the utilization of student government funds to be seen more visually on campus. I would like to see a lot of students say, "Wow, this is done by student government." To actually have students recognize that the student government did it.

WC: Are there any programs and services you feel should be modified, deleted from or added to ASUA's budget?

R: A bigger budget for the Escort Service. I would like to see the Escort Service get their own vehicle - they are currently renting one. I'd also like to see volunteers at the Escort Service get paid so that they can be compensated. Better lighting for parking structures and parking lots so that students can be safer.
