UA dominated in Stanford sweep

Arizona lost 16-3 to Stanford yesterday in Palo Alto, Calif., as the Cardinal completed a three-game sweep of the Wildcats.

UA (20-19 overall, 4-11 in the Pacific 10 Conference) was outscored 37-11 in the series as Stanford (20-12, 8-7) won 14-2 and 7-6 before yesterday's game.

UA kept it close in game three until the fourth inning, when the Cardinal scored four runs off Arizona starter Darryl Hussman (2-1) to take a 6-2 lead. Stanford later broke the game open with six runs in the bottom of the eighth, keyed by a two-run single from junior Luke Quaccia and a solo home run from senior A.J. Hinch. Hinch went 3-for-4 with three RBI in the win.

UA sophomore Diego Rico went 3-3 with two runs scored and an RBI to lead Arizona.

Stanford freshman right-hander Chad Hutchinson (3-1) threw a complete game nine-hitter, while walking one and striking out eight.
