With just one tournament to play before the Pacific 10 Conference Championships later this month, nothing could be more pleasing to the Arizona women's golf team than knowing the team is peaking at the right time.

Coming off a 26-stroke win at the Rainbow Wahine Golf Invitational last week, No. 5 UA will travel to Columbus, Ohio for the Ohio State Buckeye Invitational that begins today and runs through Saturday.

The field of 17 includes Bowling Green, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, and Big Ten favorite, Indiana.

"Ohio State is one of the stronger teams in the tournament," OSU assistant golf coach Kristina Jaskohski said. "I think the other favorites are Arizona and Indiana, who is considered first in the Big Ten."

The Buckeye tournament will give the Wildcats a chance to fine tune their pitching and putting before coming home to play host to the Pac-10's elite.

After two-straight tournament wins, Arizona will look to freshmen Maria Baena and Krissy Register for help in extending its streak to three.

Register recorded the first win of her career at the Rainbow Invitational. Shooting a 220 for the tournament, the freshman finished two shots ahead of teammate Heather Graff (222) and Anna Lindblom (222) of Oklahoma State, who both tied for second place.

Register has showed steady improvement throughout the season.

"Krissy just played great," UA head golf coach Rick LaRose said. "She had a nice, steady performance, and with this win she jumped a great hurdle."

Ranked fourth in the country individually, Baena tied for fourth place at the Rainbow Invitational and has finished in the top 10 in six of seven tournaments this season.

Teammates Jeanne Anne Krizman and Christina Tolerton finished 13th and 22nd, respectively.

"Winning by 26 shots is something," LaRose said. "It is great that everyone contributed to the win."

There is one thing that could keep the Wildcats from succeeding € the weather.

After being spoiled by the tropical weather in Hawaii, the team will be subject to the less than fair weather conditions of the Midwest.

"Hopefully, it won't be snowing," LaRose said.
