Editor:
I have noticed a very disturbing aspect of this year's campaign. Normally I would avoid the pamphleteers that have infested the campus at this time of year, but I noticed that they were intentionally avoiding everyone who appeared to be more than 25 years old. By engaging in this practice, the candidates are missing a large percentage of the student body.
To illustrate this, I walked by 17 campaigners, and my wife passed another 12 in a 30-minute span. We were approached a total of four times. To show further how out of touch this campaign is with the general student population, my 13- year-old daughter, who is on spring break and on campus with us, was approached no less that 10 times. There is absolutely no way that she could pass for a university student.
My wife and I are both in our late thirties and full-time students. I know discrimination when I see it, and this is a very good example of age discrimination. I hope that this microcosm of American politics is not the wave of the future.
