A UA student called police Friday after the drummer of a band performing at Spring Fling reportedly punched him in the face.The student entered the band's tour bus at 8:15 p.m. The bus was parked inside Spring Fling, 1800 E. University Blvd.
Police reports indicate the drummer approached him in the bus and told him to leave. The student protested because he had a backstage pass and then took a step forward. The drummer hit the student in the face.
When approached by police, the drummer apologized for hitting the student. No charges were filed in the case.
Spring Fling officials later said backstage passes do not give bearers access privileges to any private vehicles.
Two instances of computer-related theft occurred on campus late last week.
Several computer components and a quad-speed CD-ROM drive were stolen from an office in the Speech building, 1103 E. University Blvd., between 4 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. Friday.
An employee reportedly arrived at work Friday to find her computer dismantled on the floor. The hard drive, 16 megabytes of RAM chips, a modem, and an NEC CD-ROM drive were missing. The value of the stolen items was unknown.
Police reports indicate thieves gained access to the room by forcing open an outside window. Officers lifted latent fingerprints from the window pane and forwarded them to the Arizona Fingerprint Identification Service.
In a separate case, someone broke into the Department of Psychology's main office, 1503 E. University Blvd., smashed multiple indoor windows and stole computers and computer accessories sometime before 3:31 p.m. Sunday.
Officers arrived to find the damage as well as multiple spaces where personal computers once were.
The extent of damage and stolen items was unknown. Facilities Management was notified to repair the broken windows.
Police are investigating both incidents.
University police pursued a white sedan in a high-speed chase Friday night after officers observed it back into and damage another car in McKale Garage, 1651 E. Enke Drive.
At 10:54 p.m., an officer saw the hit-and-run incident. He had previously been following 12 males seen flashing gang signs at Spring Fling.
Officers attempted to corner the car at the northwest exit of the garage, but it swerved around the squad car.
Police pursued it southbound on North Campbell Avenue, running several red lights.
Police discontinued the pursuit at South Kino Parkway and East 36th Street and returned to campus.
Someone stole $500 worth of Spring Fling script from a ticket booth at 6:06 p.m. Friday.
Police reports indicate a juvenile was in the process of purchasing tickets when he grabbed the pad of script from within the booth and ran south from the area.
Police and security personnel searched the area without success.
University police arrested three people on marijuana charges over the weekend.
Officers patrolling McKale Garage, 1651 E. Enke Drive, smelled marijuana fumes at 11:10 p.m. Saturday and saw Susan M. Jones, 31, of the 4600 block of South Almond, and a female juvenile smoking a hand-rolled cigarette inside a parked 1995 Chrysler LeBaron.
A search of the vehicle yielded a baggie filled with a green leafy substance and a partially-smoked, hand-rolled cigarette.
Jones was cited for unlawful possession of marijuana and transfer of drugs to a minor. She was taken to Pima County Jail.
The juvenile was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and transported to Pima County Juvenile Court Center.
In a separate case, police arrested Michael S. Radcliff, 19, a resident of Navajo-Pinal-Sierra Hall, 1557 E. Sixth St., at 10:05 p.m. after officers smelled burnt marijuana around a portable toilet at Spring Fling, 1800 E. University Blvd.
Police approached Radcliff after he exited the toilet structure, and he admitted smoking marijuana, police reports stated. Officers later found a lighter and a pipe inside the portable toilet.
Radcliff was cited and released at the scene. The pipe and lighter were placed into evidence.
