Bomb explodes at Pakistan clinic, killing 6 people

LAHORE, Pakistan (AP) - A bomb tucked under a sofa exploded in a crowded hospital waiting room yesterday, killing six people and injuring at least 20 others. The dead included a 12-year-old boy.

Imran Khan, a popular former cricket star who runs the hospital in central Pakistan, said the attack was intended to discourage him from entering politics.

''This was meant to frighten us, but we will fight on,'' Khan told reporters amid the wreckage at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust Hospital in Lahore.

Between 100 and 150 patients were in the waiting room of the chemotherapy ward's outpatient clinic when the bomb blew up, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Poll: Britons prefer Anne to Charles as next monarch

LONDON (AP) - More Britons would like to see Princess Anne as their monarch than her older brother Prince Charles, according to a poll published yesterday.

Princess Anne, eighth in line to the throne and once the least popular of Queen Elizabeth II's four children, led the poll with 33 percent of respondents choosing her from a list of heirs and other public figures.

Heir-apparent Charles came second, backed by 26 percent of respondents in the Mori poll, commissioned by Independent Television.

Only 47 percent thought Charles would make a good king.
