Laxcats rally to beat UCSB

The Arizona men's club lacrosse team (12-2 in the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League) used a team effort to end the regular season with an 8-6 win over the University of California at Santa Barbara Saturday night at Tucson High School.

This game was a grudge match that was decided in the last minute, as Arizona did not take it's first lead until 3 minutes, 11 seconds were left in the game when they forged ahead 6-5.

The Gauchos, however, came right back to tie the score at 6 with 46 seconds left. But UA responded, nine seconds later, when junior Josh Sfara beat his opponent and scored the winning goal.

Sfara finished with three goals and one assist.

After a turnover by the Gauchos, goalie Justin Nels ran down the middle of the field and passed to the ball to junior Dan Price, and Price scored a goal to ice the game.

Nels turned in a stellar performance and finished with a season-high 33 saves, including 12 in the final period.

"They bust their asses off, so I have to bust mine too," Nels said about his teammates.

Arizona started flat and didn't score in the first period, as the Gauchos kept the ball on UA's end. Arizona trailed 3-1 at halftime.
