University police arrested one UA student and one Tucson youth on marijuana charges over the weekend.

Bryan H. Lifshitz, 18, of Coronado Residence Hall, 822 E. Fifth St., was stopped at 12:05 a.m Saturday at the intersection of East First Street and North Cherry Avenue after officers saw his 1993 Ford Escort driving westbound on First Avenue without headl ights.

Police detected a burnt marijuana odor in the vehicle and later confiscated two baggies containing a green leafy substance, one red pipe with marijuana residue, and a wooden case containing a green leafy substance and a ceramic smoking baton.

Lifshitz was cited for unlawful possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and released at the scene.

The contraband was placed into evidence.

In a separate incident, a Parking and Transportation employee called police after the occupants of a red Nissan Sentra reportedly yelled at him and gave him "the bird," police reports stated.

The employee followed the vehicle and then reported its position.

Officers later pulled over the suspect vehicle at the intersection of East Fourth Street and North Vine Avenue. Police reports indicate the driver, Jon J. Haaksma, 19, of the 6700 block of North Calle Sin Nombre, passed field sobriety tests but appeared t o be under the influence of marijuana because of his bloodshot eyes.

A search of the vehicle yielded a baggie containing a green leafy substance.

The 17-year-old Tucson boy who riding in Haaksma's 1992 Nissan Sentra told officers the baggie was his.

Haaksma, who admitted to yelling at the Parking and Transportation employee, was cited for disorderly conduct and released at the scene.

The Tucson boy was cited for unlawful possession of marijuana and later released to his mother.


University police arrested a UA student on DUI charges Thursday after officers saw his car drive by with one headlight out.

Michael L. Jordan, 19, a resident of Cochise Hall, 1018 E. South Campus Drive, was pulled over at 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of East Fourth Street and North Park Avenue and officers smelled alcohol on his breath.

He failed field sobriety tests and then admitted to drinking earlier that evening. Subsequent Intoxilyzer tests registered a blood alcohol concentration of .111 and .101.

Officers confiscated two 12-packs of beer from Jordan's 1986 Pontiac sedan and also found a stolen Arizona driver's license.

Jordan was cited for DUI, DUI with a BAC above .10, minor operating a motor vehicle with alcohol in body, and theft by control.

The beer was disposed of at university police headquarters after Jordan was released.


University police arrested a UA student for minor in consumption of alcohol after officers observed her walking with a long-neck bottle of Mickey's malt liquor in the area of North Cherry Avenue and East University Boulevard.

After stopped by university police at 12:57 a.m., Jennifer Polcer, 19, of Apache-Santa Cruz Residence Hall, 1420 E. Fifth St., gave officers what subsequent checks revealed was a false Nebraska driver license. She later admitted the license was a fake.

Polcer was cited for minor in possession of alcohol and released at the scene. Officers emptied the beer onto the ground.


Four students' bicycles were stolen from the campus area recently.

The stolen items are valued at $135.
