Michael Eilers makes many accurate points in the "Outwit the campus bike thief" column (April 18). His suggestion to take a bike inside is wrong. While it may protect the bike better, moving a bike around in hallways and corridors presents a hazard to everyone else. Bikes in buildings result in injuries. Protecting a bike should not be at the cost of injury to others. Various laws, codes and university policy, do not allow bikes in buildings, particularly residential high rises such as Coronado Residence Hall. In case of a fire, a bike in a hallway either stored or moving in or out, blocks the exit of people out of the building.
