A student called police Thursday after she saw what she believed to be a kidnapping.

Officers arrived in back of Manzanita-Mohave Residence Hall, 1000 N. Park Ave., at 3:15 p.m., where the witness told them she had seen a college-age man being held down by other males. She said he was kicked once in the stomach and forced into a yellow utility truck.

University police broadcast an attempt-to-locate bulletin for the vehicle and Tucson police found a 1973 International utility wagon matching that description at East Speedway Boulevard and North Tyndall Avenue. The witness confirmed the vehicle was the same one involved in the incident.

Police learned the entire incident was part of a Delta Tau Delta fraternity prank after talking to Todd D. Weldon, 18, and Michael J. Fleres, 18, both residents of Manzanita-Mohave Hall, who TPD located near the vehicle.

Weldon, who is a DTD pledge, said pledges may be "abducted" during the course of the week if seen by a house member. He identified himself as the "abductee" in the incident, police reports stated.

Weldon and Fleres named Joseph C. Yasinski, 22, Jeremy L. Reed, 18, and William A. Smith, 20, all residents of Delta Tau Delta fraternity, 1550 E. Vine Ave. The three later contacted police and explained their roles in the incident.

Police cited all five DTD members for disrupting the peaceful conduct of an educational institution.

The case will be forwarded to the Attorney General's Office, Greek Life, and the Dean of Students office for further investigation.

Someone stole a UA student's wallet from a locked locker at McKale Center, 1721 E. Enke drive, between 3 and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The wallet contained identification, bank cards, credit cards and an unknown amount of money.

Someone shattered the passenger-side window of a student's 1987 Mazda hatchback between 9 p.m. Wednesday and 8:25 a.m. Thursday.

Police reports indicate nothing was stolen from the car, which was parked on the third level of McKale Garage, 1641 E. Enke Drive.

The student said the same type of damage occurred in November 1995. The value of the damage was unknown.
