Pima County Sheriff's deputies arrested two women on burglary charges Saturday after campers on Mount Graham saw them removing a computer and other equipment from the UA Observatory at milepost 20 on Mount Bigelow Road.Deputies arrived at 2:54 p.m. and confirmed that three buildings at the University of Arizona complex had been burglarized.
They arrested Kapp V. Polston, 18, of the 4400 block of East Osage Road, and Kristian L. Stockton, 25, of an unknown address, after finding a university-tagged computer in the back of their 1968 Ford truck.
University police responded soon after and transported the women to Pima County Jail, where they were each booked on three counts of burglary, theft and aggravated criminal damage.
A Steward Observatory employee was also dispatched to the Mount Graham complex to recover the stolen computer and other household goods valued at $500.
Three separate incidents of telephone harassment were reported to university police Sunday and Monday.
- A resident of Babcock Inn, 1717 E. Speedway Blvd., called police at 11 p.m. Sunday after an unknown male called his room and said, "If I see y ou, I'm gonna get you," and, "I'm gonna kick your fuckin' ass," police reports stated.
Police reports stated another man known only as "Max" called shortly thereafter and said, "You don't have to worry about that other guy - I've got him taken care of."
The victim traced the calls through U.S. West Communications.
- A resident of Coronado Hall, 822 E. Fifth St., called police Monday after a male who identified himself as "James" called her hall room at 1:24 p.m.
James told her he had bought a key to her room from "some dude," police reports stated.
The victim told police her roommate had lost a copy of the room key earlier this semester.
Police advised her to change her room lock and phone number.
- A desk clerk at La Paz Residence Hall, 602 N. Highland Ave., called police after a man who identified himself as "Ray Walker" called her at the hall desk at 8:50 p.m. Monday.
Walker told the clerk he wanted to "bring boxing to Tucson and asked if girls would come," police reports stated.
He then gave the clerk his phone number and said she could call him collect. She replied, "No."
The desk clerk said Walker has called before and always asks for female desk clerks or students. Desk clerks have been instructed to notify university police after each call.
University police arrested a resident of Babcock Inn, 1717 E. Speedway Blvd., on DUI charges Saturday after she ran a red light driving southbound at East Speedway Boulevard and North Cherry Avenue.
Officers pulled over the 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Heather E. Frankel, 18, at 11:24 p.m. and noted a strong odor of burnt marijuana emanating from the vehicle.
Frankel failed field sobriety tests, but Intoxilyzer screenings showed no alcohol in her blood. Police took urine samples for later cannabis content tests.
She was cited for driving under the influence pending the completion of the drug tests.
A resident of Cochise Hall, 1018 E. South Campus Drive, called police Monday to report the theft of his $5,600 laptop computer.
Between 11 p.m. Saturday and 2 a.m. Sunday, someone took a Toshiba 400-series laptop computer, a CD-ROM game and a pair of Ray-Ban Sunglasses from his room.
Officers noted no signs of forced entry and two other computers in the room remained untouched.
The total value of stolen items is $5,720.
