A University of Arizona Police Department officer was seriously injured last Wednesday morning when his motorcycle collided with a Facilities Management truck.

Officer Wesley R. Kent, 33, was responding to a burglary alarm at McKale Center when the accident occurred.

UAPD acting Lt. Brian Seastone, a spokesman for the department, said Kent was driving north on Highland Avenue when he attempted to pass the truck in a marked, no-passing zone. The truck driver did not see the motorcycle passing and turned left into the bike.

The incident is still under investigation, and no citations have been issued. It is unclear whether Kent had his sirens and lights on at the time, Seastone said.

The investigation will continue after Kent has recovered and is able to talk with investigators, Seastone said.

Kent was taken to University Medical Center and treated for a broken arm, broken ribs and internal injuries. He was released last Friday and is currently undergoing physical therapy at an undisclosed location.

He is expected to make a full recovery and return to work as soon as possible.
