Two senior UA baseball players were drafted last week in baseball's annual amateur draft, while another signed before the draft took place.

Co-captain and starting second baseman John Powers was taken by the San Diego Padres in the 21st round. Powers hit .393 with 90 hits and 37 RBI last season and was Arizona's lone selection to the All Pacific 10 Conference squad.

Left-handed pitcher Jason Ford was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 28th round. Ford had a record of 3-1 last season.

Right-handed pitcher Clay Crossan signed with the expansion Arizona Diamondbacks before the draft began. Crossan pitched in 17 games for the UA this season with a record of 1-2. The Diamondbacks begin play in 1998.

Arizona's top recruits, Tony Milo of Laguna Hills, Calif., and Mike Hessman of Santa Ana, Calif., were each drafted but given their later round positions - seventh and 15th respectively. Neither is expected to sign a professional contract and should be in an Arizona uniform next season.
