The Department of Residence Life is moving from the top floor of the Slonaker House to a new home in the office space near Babcock Residence Hall.
The move is planned for sometime in July. However, the exact date has not been determined.
Director of Residence Life Jim Van Arsdel said he is "very happy" with the current facilities and does not know what factors influenced the decision to move.
Mercy Valencia, UA director of space management, could not be reached for comment.
"It is still in the process of being determined" whether renovations will be done to the Babcock facilities, Van Arsdel said.
In a past plan, ROTC was to move to the Babcock facilities with Residence Life moving to South Hall.
The plan was turned down after ROTC stated its case to Provost Paul Sypherd, said Cpt. Joseph Sciabarra, commanding officer of the Naval ROTC unit.
"Students don't just come here to go to class and that's it," Sciabarra said. He said there are students in and out from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The move makes space available on the top floor of Slonaker House, located just behind Manzanita-Mohave Residence Hall at North Park Avenue and East Second Street.
The Honors Center, located on the bottom floor of Slonaker House, will expand when the new space becomes available.
Cynthia Likewise, secretary at the Honors Center, said the program hopes to do renovations in the future, but for now will "have to make do with what we have."
The open space on the top floor will be occupied by the School of Music, said Dionne Hill, facilities manager for the school. She said despite the new Fine Arts Complex, the School of Music already needs more space.
"We had outgrown the building before it was ever completed," Hill said. "The department grew so much since the original concept of the building."
