The Associated Students of the University of Arizona are trying to stop the complaining about there not being enough to do for those under 21.

Club 21, sponsored by ASUA, is an organization where students of all ages can have fun without the influence of alcohol.

Former Undergraduate Sen. Jonathan Bierner started the club at the end of last year with a "rave" for the students.

A "rave" is like an underground dance where students dance all night, usually to techno music.

"About 100 students attended the dance, and we hope to broaden it from last year," said Undergraduate Sen. J.J. Rico.

Rico, who is taking over Bierner's position, hopes to continue attracting students to the club by providing things such as a "rock'n'rollathon."

"The event would take place at a local bowling alley where we would stay all night bowling," Rico said. "We also are considering having a Casino night, but instead of playing with money we would offer prizes such as winning baseball hats and season basket ball tickets."

The club, which is sponsored by ASUA and Health Promotions, is free to all students, both under 21 and over 21.

"We try and sponsor several organizations that are not alcohol related," said Holly Avey, a health educator with Health Promotions. "We gave Club 21 $1,000, but we sponsor other groups such as KAMP Radio."

"The money came from a grant we received from the federal government. However, due to budget cuts, (the grants) will be cut," Avey said. She said Health Promotions gave funding to the club before the cuts, so the club will only be affected in the future by the cuts.

ASUA also donated $1,000 to the club.

Rico said he and Bierner are working to come up with ideas for the 1996-97 school year.
