If you prefer the confines of Crowder Hall to the Modern Languages Auditorium, or if you simply wish to relax to well-performed choral music, you may want to attend the performance of Dr. Josef Knott's UA Summer Chorus & Chamber Orchestra this Sunday at 3 p.m.
The UA Summer Chorus is special in that it is composed of University students and staff, as well as members of the Tucson community, allowing quite a broad range of voices to participate.
The program for Sunday's concert will be comprised of two pieces, Beethoven's "Choral Fantasy" - a five section musical whirlwind - and Rossini's religious piece "Stabat Mater." In a conversation earlier this week, Dr. Knott pointed out that many are familiar with the central melody of the Beethoven piece from its recent inclusion in a Dean Witter television ad. The piece also references several of Beethoven's other works, among them his Ninth Symphony and his "Gegenliebe" piece.
Tickets for the Crowder Hall concert are $8 for general admission, $5 for UA employees, and $3 for senior citizens and students.
