Tuesday, June 25

A 40-year-old Tucson woman fell down the stairs of the Purchasing Office, 603 N. Mountain Ave. The woman explained she had been dizzy lately, and had plans to see a doctor. The woman was taken to University Medical Center.


A UA student's stereo was stolen from her Nissan Sentra parked in a lot at East Seventh Street and North Highland Avenue.

The student parked and went to class at 10 a.m. When she returned at 2 p.m., she found the right front window of the car broken, and her stereo stolen. The stereo's value was unknown.


A UA employee reported at 9:50 a.m. that a freezer in the Veterinary Sciences Building, 1127 E. Lowell St., had been unplugged, damaging a scientific sample. A piece of human brain tissue, valued at $30,000-$50,000, was destroyed.


A Tucson teenager was arrested on a warrant as a runaway after reports of panhandling and possible narcotics dealing brought a University police officer to the Student Union, 1303 E. University Drive.

The 15-year-old boy, a 13-year-old girl, and an 18-year-old man were found at 8:15 a.m., police reports stated. The 18-year-old and the girl were warned about trespassing, but a computer check on the boy uncovered a warrant, and he was arrested. The boy's parents refused to pick him up, and he was taken to the Center for Juvenile Alternatives.


A female UA employee reported two incidents of harassment to police.

The woman said she received a letter postmarked June 3 from Daytona Beach, Fla. The letter suggested she seek psychiatric help. A second letter postmarked June 20 from Columbus, Ga., was received June 26. The woman suspected a former student after compari ng the handwriting in both letters.

The woman told police she did not feel threatened.


Wednesday, June 26

A Trek 990 21-speed mountain bicycle valued at $1,000 was stolen from the west side of the Student Recreation Center, 1400 E. Sixth St., between 2 p.m. and 3:40 p.m.


An unknown male entered the Tree Ring Lab, 530 N. Vine Ave., at 9:10 a.m. and removed 10 liters of liquid nitrogen from a container. A witness said the man put the liquid into his own container and left without speaking to anyone. The nitrogen is valued a t $50.


A Miyata Elevation 400 mountain bicycle was stolen from the south side of the Education Building, 1430 E. 2nd St., between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.


Thursday, June 27

A UA vehicle backed into a tree when the driver forgot to put it into park.

A UA employee parked the Ford van at a loading dock at Mountain Avenue and Lowell Street. The van was still in reverse, and rolled across the parking lot and Lowell Street before coming to rest on top of a small citrus tree on the south side of Lowell. Th ere was no damage to the van, but the tree was damaged.


Friday, June 28

University police took two runaway juveniles into custody after they were seen on campus.

Police noticed four youths sitting on North Park Avenue, north of East University Boulevard, at 6:30 p.m. One of the youths matched the description of a runaway juvenile reported in the UA area. Police approached the youths and identified two as runaways.

The two were turned over to the Tucson Police Department. The other two were not cited.


Sunday, June 30

Police were called to the Student Recreation Center, 1400 E. 6th St., at 5 p.m. when a fight broke out.

Two students began fighting during a "pretty physical" basketball game. Due to the nature of the game, no charges were pressed. Both men had their privileges suspended, but shook hands and apologized to each other.


The president of Kappa Alpha fraternity, 906 N. First Ave., called police when a man refused to leave the house.

The president told police the man had been roaming the halls, causing a disturbance. The man had been taken to a room by a resident after they had been drinking and brought the man to the room to sleep.

The man was taken to his truck outside to sleep. Police told the man if he re-entered the building, he would be arrested for trespassing.
