Tuesday, July 2

A UA Dairy Farm employee called police when she smelled what she thought was marijuana burning.

Police responded at 1:42 a.m. to the farm, 2100 E. Allen. Officers discovered a smoldering bale of hay, which they extinguished. Bales of hay were scattered around the smoldering one. The employee said this was not normal, that the bales were usually stac ked.


Wednesday, July 3

A Phoenix man allegedly threatened a Parking and Transportation Services employee when the employee asked him to move his van.

At 10:45 a.m., Gregory Mohammed, 38, was asked to move his van, which was reportedly parked in the right hand turn lane of East University Drive near North Cherry Avenue. Mohammed said he was waiting for people in the Flandrau Planetarium. The PTS employe e told police that Mohammed threatened to "stomp on his face and kick his ass."

Police found Mohammed at Cherry and East Fourth Street and noted he was "argumentative," according to police reports. Mohammed was cited for threats and intimidation and released at the scene.

Later that day, Mohammed filed a complaint with university police claiming the PTS employee and the responding police officer had "verbally harassed" him and shown him "moral disrespect."


Friday, July 5

A female claimed that a male had captured her dog during a police response to a disturbance at 10 a.m. in front of Kappa Alpha Fraternity, 906 N. First Ave.

The female claimed that a male had her dog and would not let it go. However, the male claimed the dog was hiding because the female was "acting crazy." The female had a cut on her hand, and the male said she had shoved him.

The dog was returned, and the two, who said they had been dating for two years, were warned of domestic violence statutes.


Saturday, July 6

Police discovered a concealed weapon after stopping a car for not yielding to oncoming traffic.

A Cadillac Seville made a U-turn on East Speedway Boulevard at 1:45 a.m. and headed west, without yielding to oncoming traffic.

Police stopped the car at the corner of North First Avenue and Speedway. The driver, David Ware, 25, of the 1000 block of South 10th Avenue, claimed he did not have his driver's license. A computer check showed the license was suspended, and Ware was cite d for driving on a suspended license and released.

The officer then found a loaded .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun and extra bullets in the car while searching for the license.

Passenger Kearen L. Clark, 20, of the 9000 block of South Nogales Highway, admitted owning the gun, which he said he carried "for his protection." He was cited on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon in a motor vehicle and released. The gun and bullets were placed into evidence.


A student resident of Kappa Alpha Fraternity, 906 N. First Ave., reported his new American Express Card stolen.

The student left town Saturday and left another student resident in charge of receiving the card, sent by Federal Express. When the student returned, his friend had not seen the card, but a call to American Express showed $450 in purchases had already bee n made.

The two students suspected a non-student resident of the house of the theft, claiming the non-student had ordered a lot of pizzas over the weekend.


Sunday, July 7

A man arrested on a DUI charge reportedly began to threaten police and had to be restrained by two officers.

Ples L. Aldridge, 51, of the 700 block of East Third Street, failed field sobriety tests and was informed he would be arrested for driving under the influence, after police stopped him near North Euclid Avenue and East Speedway Boulevard at 11:18 p.m.

Aldridge reportedly became angry and combative and had to be "taken to the ground" and handcuffed.

A search of the Aldridge's truck uncovered several cans of Milwaukee's Best beer and a glass smoking pipe, police reports stated.

Aldridge was arrested on charges of DUI, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to Pima County Jail, where he was booked.


Monday, July 8

Two-thousand dollars worth of tools were stolen from the construction site at the Arizona Cancer Center, 1515 N. Campbell Ave., over the weekend.

The tools were valued at $2,065. The employee suspected co-workers of the theft, but did not want police to ask his co-workers questions.
