Eric Hansen, a six-time All-American swimmer at Iowa State, has been named UA's new assistant swimming coach.

Hansen will replace Mariusz Podkoscielny, who left early this month to become head coach at Oregon State.

Hansen coached U.S. athletes to two gold and two silver medals at the 1994 World Championships in Rome. His swimmers also claimed gold medals at the 1995 Pan American Games. Hansen has also coached three U.S. Olympic Sports Festival gold medalists.

He was an assistant coach for Florida last year, and, prior to that, was the head coach of the Phoenix Swim Club from 1992 to 1995.

Hansen completed his undergraduate work at Iowa State, where he was the ISU male athlete of the year, in 1988. Having graduated with a master's degree in exercise physiology from the UA in 1990, Hansen is looking forward to returning to Tucson and working with head coach Frank Busch.
