A former resident assistant and UA's associate director of Residence Life is trading "dorm life" at the UA after 23 years for a position in Texas.

Edward Hull is leaving Monday to take a position as director of housing and resident life at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

"UA has been a very big part of my life," Hull said. "I met my wife in 1978, when we became hall directors on the same day."

Hull received his undergraduate degree at the University of Arizona while he lived in Kaibab-Huachuca Hall and his master's degree while he was a hall director at Navajo-Pinal-Sierra Hall.

Three months into his position as hall director, in January, 1978, he was promoted to associate director and has stayed there since.

Hull helped develop the Residence Hall Association in 1981 which sponsored dorm day and mock rock.

"No one person can accomplish programs like these by themselves," Hull said.

He said he was drawn to SMU because its program is similar to the UA's, but much smaller.

"There is a strong intimacy about the campus, but I know what I'm leaving at the UA," Hull said. "I love my school. I have even been accused of bleeding red and blue."

A reception is being held for Hull today at the Stadium Club from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
