OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Even the NCAA is looking for concessions.

The organization governing college athletics in the U.S. has asked 10 metropolitan areas to submit proposals for housing its headquarters.

The cities include Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, Houston, Indianapolis, Orlando, Phoenix, San Antonio, and the NCAA's current home of Kansas City. The cities have until Nov. 7 to respond.

NCAA headquarters have been located in the Kansas City area since 1952, and the organization's current lease expires in February 2000.

A committee of university presidents and administrators selected the 10 cities last Thursday and Friday. NCAA Executive Director Cedric Dempsey said in a news release Monday that the committee focused on four areas: office space, meeting and conference spaces, championship-sized sports facilities and areas that could give higher profile to the Hall of Champions.

The committee will review the responses in December. The NCAA said a decision would be made next spring.
