A student was reportedly assaulted at Saguaro Credit Union, 801 E. Speedway Blvd., Monday night.

University police were flagged down at East Second Street and North Park Avenue by a male bleeding from his face. He told officers he had been assaulted at the automatic teller machine at the credit union.

Police called paramedics, who transported the man to Tucson Medical Center. Because the credit union is outside of UAPD's jurisdiction, the department contacted Tucson police and learned that the assault already had been reported by witnesses at a restaur ant across from the credit union.

The only information the police were given is that three "very intoxicated" males assaulted the student.

Police arrested two people Monday, one on a weapons charge and another on a drug charge, after police stopped the car they were in for speeding.

An officer was on patrol when he saw a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass northbound on North Euclid Avenue at a high rate of speed. The officer stopped the vehicle at East Speedway Boulevard and North Park Avenue at about 12:41 a.m. and requested a back-up unit to respond.

The 17-year-old driver of the vehicle told officers he did not have a license. Police could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, but the driver said there were no drugs or weapons in the car, reports stated.

Police removed the occupants of the vehicle and found a marijuana joint in the ash tray and a "green, leafy substance" throughout the vehicle. A loaded .45 caliber Colt semi-automatic handgun was also found under the passenger seat. The passenger, Halaeem Jamal Edwards, 19, of the 1000 block of East Silverlake Road, claimed the gun was his and the driver did not know about it.

Police arrested both men and charged Edwards with carrying a concealed weapon. The 17-year-old was charged with possession of marijuana, providing false information to law enforcement, and speeding and driving without a license. Both were cited and releas ed at the scene.
