Police briefly pursued a late '80s model white Chevrolet after it ran through a red light early Wednesday morning, but called off the chase after the vehicle sped up and ran through several stop signs.At 3:03 a.m., an officer observed the driver of the vehicle slam on the brakes while it was westbound on East Speedway Boulevard approaching a red light at North Cherry Avenue. The officer began following the vehicle, which turned south onto North Mountai n Avenue, running a red light.
The officer activated his emergency lights and continued after the car as it proceeded westbound on East North Campus Drive, running stop signs at North Park Avenue, North Tyndall Avenue, and North Euclid Avenue, according to police reports. The officer t hen shut off his lights and discontinued the pursuit.
Police were not able to see the vehicle's license plate.
Police were called to Slonaker House, 1017 E. Second St., early Wednesday morning and found several students using a rope to try to get on the roof.
Officers arrived at 12:09 a.m. and discovered the students were trying to retrieve a frisbee that had landed on the roof of the two-story building.
Police called facilities maintenance, but they could not find a ladder long enough to reach the roof. The students were told to call Facilities Management Thursday morning.
A former resident of Graham-Greenlee Hall, 610 N. Highland Ave., reported his Super Nintendo game system and 16 cartridges were stolen from his closet between Nov. 23 and Dec. 15.
On Wednesday, the man reported he discovered the items missing while he was moving out before the holiday break. The game system's box and the case that had contained the game cartridges were left in the closet.
The man told police he suspects his ex-roommate, 19-year-old Shawn C. Gebhart, who has since gone to Yuma. Gebhart has a misdemeanor arrest warrant from university police for a theft that occurred Oct. 21 when a traffic sign was taken from the Park Avenue Garage, 1140 N. Park Ave. Police attempted to contact Gebhart in Yuma but were unable to locate him.
Two vehicles were broken into in parking lot 2025 at East Speedway Boulevard and North Cherry Avenue Tuesday.
Someone called police at 2:45 p.m. and reported seeing the windows of two vehicles broken out.
The first vehicle, a 1989 Plymouth sedan, had its front passenger side window smashed and the Craig AM/FM cassette stereo partially removed.
The second vehicle, a 1983 two-door BMW, had the driver side window broken. A Sony stereo was partially removed and the stereo's faceplate had been taken. The cost of the damages was unknown.
A turquoise Specialized Rockhopper 18 mountain bike was stolen from a rack near the Bio Sciences West building, 1040 E. Fifth St., between 12:50 and 2 p.m. Tuesday.
A student reported to police Wednesday that the bicycle had been secured with a cable lock when both the bike and the lock were taken. The value was reported to be $565.
