Off-duty police officers serving as security for a Sigma Chi fraternity party arrested seven minors for consumption or possession of alcohol Saturday.Five people were cited for minor in consumption of alcohol. They are: Christopher J. Brown, of the 7400 block of East Eagle Place; Lance C. Enyart, of Phoenix; Jennifer J. Cordelli and Juliane E. Jacobs, both residents of Coronado Residence Hall; and Hea ther Anne Fahey, a resident of Arizona-Sonora Residence Hall.
Police also detained Daffodil J. Altan, of the 1400 block of East Fifth Street and Renee Marie Marquez, also of Coronado, on charges of minor in possession of alcohol.
They were all cited and released.
Two non-students were arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of a narcotic drug Saturday after officers pulled their car over during a routine traffic stop.
Benjamin R. Morales and David J. Mazon, both of the 1200 block of North Third Avenue, were passengers in the car.
Officers initially found a small film container filled with a green leafy substance, and subsequently confiscated a brown glass vial of a fine, white powder which Morales admitted belonged to him.
Officers found two more film containers containing a green leafy substance and a blue glass pipe with residue in the bowl on Mazon. After a background check, officers found that Mazon was wanted for failing to a appear at the Mammouth/San Manuel Justice C ourt on an unrelated marijuana possession charge.
Morales and Mazon were taken to Pima County Jail. Mazon now awaits extradition to San Manuel.
In separate incidents, two students were arrested for minor operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
Beth Bevelhymer of the 200 block of North Granada was arrested Friday for minor operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
Officers reported that her vehicle swerved left of center twice and that they detected an odor of alcohol in the vehicle.
Because she was wearing tight clothing with no pockets, a search was not conducted.
She was cited and released.
Derek Hargrove of Houston was arrested Friday for minor operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and misrepresenting his age.
When pulled over at East Sixth Street and North Park Avenue, Hargrove told officers he was coming home from the bar The Rock. When asked how he'd gotten in, he said, "I have a fake identification card."
After failing field sobriety tests and turning his car over to a friend, Hargrove was taken to UAPD headquarters where he was cited and released.
Four males were cited for minor consumption of alcohol last weekend in separate incidents.
John P. Finnegan of the 800 block of East Fifth Street was arrested after UAPD responded to a call at East Fourth Street and North Park Avenue and found Finnegan arguing with a cab driver.
According to the driver, Finnegan and other members of his party had left the cab without paying. The driver chased them and caught Finnegan who then paid the fare.
Finnegan was later cited for minor consumption of alcohol and released.
Thomas J. Settle II and William R. Johnston of the 6300 block of South Speaks Trail were both arrested for minor in possession of alcohol at the 1400 block of East Speedway Boulevard Saturday.
Officers pulled over the 1990 gold Cheverolet truck they were riding in after someone tossed a bottle cap out the window.
Settle and Johnston handed officers a six-pack of Zima, which was later disposed of at UAPD headquarters.
The two were cited and released.
Two males were arrested for drinking in public after a UAPD officer observed them drinking cans of Budweiser Light on level one of McKale Center garage Saturday.
Tomas R. Villaman of the 9400 block of East Summer Trail and Kevin K. Koelln of the 2900 block of East 29th Street had a strong odor of alcohol on their breaths.
Villaman told officers, "I drink all the time in bars. I thought you could drink in public."
They were cited and released.
A skateboarder was arrested for third-degree criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct Jan. 15 after officers learned of previous warnings for skating in an unsafe manner and an order not to skate on campus.
Michael J. Sanderson, a non-student of the 600 block of North Stewart Avenue, was apprehended outside the Chemical and Biological Sciences building after he tried to evade a community service officer.
He was cited and released.
