University police arrested a man Monday after he was stopped for moving violations while riding his bicycle and it was discovered he had a warrant for his arrest.

Louis J. Chlumak, 20, of the 1500 block of East Eighth Street, was riding a mountain bike northbound on North Highland Avenue at East First Street when he ran through a stop sign and then turned eastbound onto First, police reports stated. First Street is a one-way street for westbound traffic only.

A record check revealed Chlumak had a warrant from the Arizona State University Police Department for indecent exposure. University police arrested Chlumak and transported him to Pima County Jail, where he was booked. Chlumak also was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign and going the wrong way on a one-way street.

Police took the bicycle into property for safekeeping.

Parking and Transportation Services officials called police Tuesday after a possibly fictitious parking permit was found in a Jeep at Corleone Apartments, 1330 N. Park Ave.

Brandon J. Callister, an 18-year-old resident of Corleone, was waiting by the vehicle with a Parking and Transportation Services officer when police arrived. The officer said the permit appeared fictitious due to its color, typesetting and graphics.

Callister told police he'd purchased the permit from a man at a party for $50 because the man was graduating. However, the permit number was checked and was found to be registered to a current student.

Callister then told police he'd made the permit on his computer while his friend allowed him to borrow the permit over winter break. The friend was contacted and said 'd loaned the permit to Callister but was unaware that it had been copied.

Callister was then arrested on a charge of theft of services. He was cited and released at the scene. The registration on Callister's Jeep also was suspended for mandatory insurance. Police confiscated the vehicle's license plates at the scene.

Someone stole a student's backpack from the shelves at the ASUA Bookstore Tuesday, and police have a surveillance videotape that may identify a suspect.

A student reported leaving the green bag at the store, 1209 E. University Blvd., at 12:30 p.m., but it was gone when she returned at 12:45 p.m. The bag contained a daily planner, purse, cellular phone, inhaler, three spiral notebooks and a makeup case.

Police obtained a surveillance tape from bookstore employees. On the tape, a man wearing a dark bandana on his head, a long-sleeved sweatshirt over another shirt, dark pants and dark tennis shoes entered the store two minutes after the student. He went to the shelf, took a bag that looked like the stolen bag, and left the store, looking at the bag as he walked out.
