A pickup truck evaded police in a high-speed chase Saturday after speeding away from a routine traffic stop.

While the University of Arizona Police Department officer was approaching the truck at East Seventh Street and North Park Avenue, the suspect vehicle, a 1979 Chevrolet pickup with peeling white paint and a taped rear window, Arizona license 4JF-192, fled eastbound on Seventh Street.

With police in pursuit, the vehicle turned south on Fremont Avenue then proceeded west on Ninth Street.

Police dropped the chase after the truck turned north on Fourth Avenue while the Tucson Police Department and a TPD helicopter searched the area.

The suspect is still at large.

A female student called police after receiving numerous harassing phone calls at the Alpha Chi Omega house Saturday.

The student told UAPD that a former boyfriend had called her eight or nine times despite repeated requests to stop calling. None of the calls were threatening, the student said.

When contacted by telephone, the ex-boyfriend told police that the student was in fact harassing him and owed him money. He was advised to stop calling.

The student contacted police again after her ex-boyfriend called the main phone number at Alpha Chi Omega and threatened to burn the house down.

She was advised to contact UAPD if he continued to call or was seen near the house.

A University of Arizona employee requested that UAPD make more late-night checks at the Music Building following two trash fires in the past several weeks.

The employee said residents of Manzanita/Mohave Residence Hall have been throwing cigarette butts and starting warming fires on the southwest loading dock of the Music Building.

Copies of the police report were also sent to the Department of Residence Life.

The Alpha Chi Omega house was vandalized Sunday when someone painted a "K" and an "E" in red and green paint on the front wall between 1:30 a.m. and 4:08 a.m.

According to UAPD reports, police believe the incident could have been related to the Kappa Sigma fraternity.

Kappa Sigma uses similar letters and the same colors.

University police arrested a non-student on charges of criminal damage and vandalism Saturday.

Kevin M. Burk, 18, of the 1800 block of Ridge Way, allegedly damaged a towel dispenser at Flandreau Science Center and Planetarium.

On questioning, he said he was having problems with his girlfriend and hit the dispenser with an open hand.

He was cited and released and said he would pay for any damages.
