University police are investigating unauthorized phone-use totalling more than $1,235 over a period of three months last fall.

Between Sept. 19 and Dec. 14, someone made numerous unauthorized calls to a number in La Paz, Mexico from Room 207 in the Marley Building, 1145 E. Fourth St.

A UA employee alerted authorities after his midyear review of building phone bills brought the transgressions to light.

The employee said he suspects custodians, as the room is always unlocked and is adjacent to a janitorial closet.

According to the police report, Community Service Officers will provide more frequent checks of the room in the future.

Two men were arrested earlier this week on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.

At 11:47 p.m. Monday, Joseph Scott Brewer, 20, of Tempe, was arrested for DUI in the 800 block of East Fifth Street after failing sobriety tests at the scene.

Charges of minor driving with alcohol in body were also added to the case.

Brewer was cited and released at the scene to other passengers in the vehicle.

In an unrelated incident, Alva Ruben, 55, of the 1100 block of East Limberlost Road, was arrested on charges of DUI, driving without a valid license, and other traffic violations Tuesday at 12:48 a.m.

Officers pulled him over after he appeared unable to stay in a traffic lane, police reports stated.

Ruben was cited and released to a taxi company.

A campus fraternity was warned for liquor violations Tuesday after neighbors complained of a "loud party" in the house.

Police arrived at Zeta Beta Tau, 1011 N. Tyndall Ave., at 11:53 p.m. and found at least two dozen people drinking on the first story of the building, police reports stated.

The president of the fraternity said the gathering was "just a get-together." He also told police there were "several people who are underage."

No arrests were made, but the fraternity could be cited for permitting underage drinking. Copies of the police report were forwarded to the Greek Association for Mature Management of Alcohol.

Two UA students were arrested for theft of services Wednesday after Parking and Transportation officials located two vehicles displaying stolen Zone One permits.

Jason M. Thibo, 18, a resident of Arizona-Sonora Hall, 910 E. Fifth St., was arrested at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in lot 5065 at the corner of North Tyndall Avenue and East Fifth Street.

Working on a tip from Parking and Transportation Services, officers found a stolen permit in his 1989 Suzuki Sidekick.

During questioning, he said he had bought the permit in a psychology class last semester. Police reports indicate there is another suspect in the case. Thibo was cited and released.

In a separate incident, Jason C. Yu, 20, also a resident of Arizona-Sonora Hall, was arrested at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday after police officers confiscated a stolen permit from his 1996 Honda Accord.

In a signed letter accompanying the police report, Yu complained of a 350-person waiting list to obtain a Zone One permit. He said he had elected to buy one from a student in his Mathematics 124 class instead of waiting.

Yu was cited and released.

Both permits were turned over to Parking and Transportation Services.

A student reported the theft of a Zone One permit from his 1995 Ford Mustang Wednesday.

Between 6 p.m. Jan. 26 and 2 p.m. Wednesday, someone took the permit from the car. The victim said he had left the driver's side window partially down.

The police report was forwarded to Parking and Transportation Services.
