The Classics Department is offering three credits to vacation on the Greek Islands during presession this May.

Al Leonard, Classics professor, has provided students with trips to Greece for the last 20 years. This year's trip will focus on the trade and art of the Greek Islands.

An information meeting will be held Friday, Feb. 9 in the Student Union Room 285, between 12 and 1 p.m. There will be a 10 to 15-minute slide presentation of the historical sights that will be seen throughout the trip.

Leonard and Renee Griggs, program coordinator for International Programs, will be on hand to answer questions and provide financial aid opportunities for the trip.

"Travel grants are available to students based on need and merit," said Griggs. "We try to dispense as much money as possible to students who qualify for traveling abroad."

The $3,000 fee for the 18-day trip includes airfare from Tucson, hotel accommodations and all transportation while in Greece. It also includes the 300-level course tuition fee.

Leonard will give historical lectures before entering each site and two essays are required by the students while they are in Greece for the three-credit excursion.

Students will have the opportunity to explore the Greek Islands and its historical sights within a group setting as well as on an individual basis, Leonard said.

"Groups work well but you can't be together all the time. No one on the trip feels like they are alone and no one feels caged either," he said.
