University police arrested one Tucson man and two local minors after a UA employee saw them stealing bicycle parts from racks near Cochise Residence Hall, 1018 E. South Campus Drive.

Edgar E. Frable, 23, of the 2900 block of West Sago Circle, and the two youths were picked up by police after they split up and left the area of Cochise Hall.

The three men were seen taking wheels and tires from various bikes in the rack area.

Upon questioning, the three admitted to stealing the parts.

Police escorted the trio back to Cochise Hall, where they replaced the stolen items.

The two minors were arrested for theft under $250. One was also cited for giving false information to law enforcement after he lied to officers about the incident.

One of the minors was booked into Pima County Juvenile Detention Center and the other was released to his mother.

Frable was cited for theft of under $250 and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was cited and released.


A UA student's 1984 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer was stolen last week from Lot 4057, in the 1800 block of East First Street.

Between 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and 5 p.m. Wednesday, someone took the car bearing California license plate ROSS-TWO.

Police reports indicate broken glass was found in the vicinity of where the car was parked. Thieves apparently broke the passenger-side window to gain entry to the vehicle.

No suspicious persons were seen in the area.


During a routine walk-through of a reportedly vacant house at 521 N. Tyndall Ave., university police found a box containing 17 .44-caliber hollowpoint bullets at 6:10 p.m. Thursday.

Reports indicate someone appeared to be living there.

Community Service Officers were posted nearby for surveillance, but no residents were seen.


Five vehicles were broken into last week in UA parking lots.

A female student called police after someone attempted to steal her car from the lot south of Apache-Santa Cruz Residence Hall, 1420 E. Fifth St.

Between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 11:30 a.m. Thursday, someone broke into the student's 1993 Dodge Spirit and removed the plastic shroud surrounding the steering column.

Police reports indicate nothing was stolen, but a fragment of a key was lodged in the ignition. The student called her automobile club, which arrived to remove the key.

In a separate incident, unknown persons stole a tire jack and the spare tire of a student's 1995 Chevrolet S-10 pickup in the Zone One lot at 617 N. Santa Rita Ave.

Police reports indicate the items were removed between 3:45 p.m. Monday and 5:15 p.m. Wednesday. No value was listed for the stolen property.

In an unrelated incident, a student reported her Zone One permit stolen at 5:46 p.m. Thursday after her car window was forced open but not shattered.

The parking permit is valued at $160 and the cost of the car damage is unknown.

The student contacted Parking and Transportation Services to report the stolen permit.

In another motor vehicle burglary, thieves removed an empty portable stereo box after smashing the right rear window.

Between 5 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Thursday, someone smashed the window of a student's 1990 Nissan Sentra in the lot at 1721 E. Enke Drive.

No suspicious persons were seen in the area.

Finally, a female student called police after someone smashed the passenger window of her 1989 Chevrolet coupe parked in lot 7105 at East Eighth Street and North Mountain Avenue.

Police reports indicate nothing was stolen in that incident. .
