The Arizona baseball team's eight-game winning streak came to an end Saturday against Texas A&M.

Arizona (9-2) kept it close until the ninth inning, when its offense was shut down, allowing the Aggies (1-2) to keep their one-run lead and win the game 9-8. The Wildcats used every weapon at their disposal to try and turn the tide of the game, including putting in four pitchers in relief of starter Jason Ford (0-1).

"Today's game was well played. We hung in there close and had a great chance to win it in the end," UA head coach Jerry Kindall said. "Each pitcher that came in - Frierott, Crossan, Shabansky and Johnson - came in at tough situations and they got some crucial outs to keep us in the game."

The Aggies had strong hitting with 19 hits and four home runs. The Wildcats had some offensive spark of their own with Diego Rico's first home run of the season, a two-run shot in the fourth inning.

"What more could you ask for? They had 19 hits, we only had nine," Rico said. "Give maybe three more, four more hits and we have another run and we're in the game."

Friday's game, in contrast, was all Wildcats. Arizona had six runs on nine hits, and held the hard-hitting Aggies to one run on nine hits. Friday's game highlighted the Wildcat pitching. Starter Shawn Barrington (1-0) threw for six innings, allowing only one run on eight hits, walking one and striking out three. Tyler Haddix earned his first save in relief of Barrington, giving up one hit and striking out three.

"We played very well this weekend. We battled real hard. (Friday's) game was very sharply played and (Saturday's) was too," Kindall said. "I'm very proud of the players. They played so hard this weekend against a very good opponent."
