University of Arizona students and their coffee pots will not be the only ones awake throughout the night during finals.
The Student Union will stay open 24 hours a day beginning Tuesday at 7 a.m. and will remain open until Dec. 16 at 1 a.m.
Tables will be set up in the Senior Ballroom for students to study at from Tuesday at 7 a.m. until midnight on Thursday, and the Terrace Dining Room will be available all Friday.
The coffee express cart will be open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6 p.m. to midnight. The A Place will be open from midnight to 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The Fiddlee Fig will open at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday.
Student Union Director Dan Adams said, "We want to provide a safe environment for students to study, catnap and eat."
Sue Crisp, the Student Union marketing director, said, "We know that there are other unions that do offer this service. We felt it would be a good, safe place for students to study, and there are snacks available."
The extended hours are a trial this year, Crisp said. If the opening is successful, the Student Union will continue the service in the future.
Exercise and sports sciences senior Steve Campodonico said he thinks the additional hours will be useful for some people.
"But, I do not expect to use it, because I'll be in the library or sleeping," he said. "However, if Betty is working at the Fig, I might use it."
Junior Andrew Rogers, who lives on campus, said he thinks he will probably use the Student Union.
"It's a good idea," Rogers said. "I mean, can anyone ever get enough Louie's?"
