If I told you that the UA is a Research I university, what does that mean to you, and did the university's research reputation have anything to do with your decision to come here?

Manuel Pacheco

president of the University of Arizona

"A Research I university is one that attempts to be at the forefront of creating and disseminating knowledge."

Beth Cooper

management information systems freshman

"Research I ... well, I've heard the MIS department is in the top three in the country, but research itself had no effect on my decision to come to the UA."

Benjamin Turner

media arts junior

"A Research I university means that they are number one in research. I think the UA's reputation is important but there's not much research in media arts."

Michael Rhodes

astronomy and physics senior

"Research I - I would say it means that the university is striving to be student friendly. The astronomy department is one of the top departments mainly because it has a good research department and that did influence my decision to come to the UA."

Hillary Mallin

retail and consumer studies junior

"Maybe it (Research I) means the university is a top research school."
