What's Going On

Thursday:

Here's something that you don't see very often: Kronos Quartet, the world's foremost avant-garde/classical music fusion group, is doing a question and answer session @ 7:00 PM in Holsclaw Hall . That's in addition to the Saturday 4:30 - 6:00 PM free open rehearsal of Tan Dun's music theater "Ghost Opera," which mixes shamanistic rituals with shadow puppets, stone, paper, Bach, Shakespeare and water gong from. They're playing Centennial Hall. 621-3341

Friday:

Damn! When did Shoebomb start to get so popular? Not that it's a bad thing - they really are great. They're playing a $4 show @ Club Congress with Van Christian and Mojo recording artists Bell. 622-8848

The Lesbian Looks film festival continues its daring tradition with Su Friedrich's new 16mm black and white film "Hide and Seek," a coming of age drama about a 12 year old girl named Lou, interwoven with hilarious recollections of adult lesbians. Showtime is 7:30, admission is free, and it's taking place @ The Modern Languages Auditorium (room 350)

Saturday:

"We're gonna beat him with a stick," said the wacky folks in The People Who Do That when they discovered that Comedy Central has the same venue booked on the same evening as their previously scheduled performance.

TCI dropped Comedy Central... it sucks missing the Tick, we know. But is KLPX radio's "Stand-Up for Comedy Central" mock-protest really the way to get it back? Well... Jon Stewart will be performing an 8:00 PM free show @ The Temple of Music and Art (330 S. Scott). But one has to wonder about the motivations: TCI is largest shareholder of Time-Warner, which in turn owns 50% of Comedy Central. Who'll win this tremendous comedy cage match? It looks like TCI might have the last laugh... (520) 622-2823 for details.
