The No. 4 ranked Arizona men's lacrosse team is off to a fast start this year, with an 11-7 victory over Stanford on Sunday afternoon, and a 26-1 victory over San Diego State on Saturday at the Rincon Vista Sports Complex. With the wins, the LaxCats have the chance of being ranked first or second in the West Cost Lacrosse League. The poll will be out later this week. The LaxCats (3-0) used four goals in the first quarter, two by attacker Dan Price, and overcame a five-goal spurt from the Cardinal in the fourth quarter to hang on for the victory. The second half was marred with over seven minutes of penalties, including UA assistant coach Davey Deffinbaugh being assessed a misconduct penalty in the third quarter. The third quarter dispute started with the Cardinal won the face-off. Taking the ball towards midfield, Stanford's Ali Disston threw a body-check on LaxCats middle defender Jeff Rizzo. "We spent a lot of time in the penalty box between the second and third quarters," LaxCats head coach Mickey-Miles Felton said. "We cannot let the officials take us out of the game, and they do. That's just immaturity on our part and (we) have to work har der at (it)." Arizona players spent a total of 12 minutes in the penalty box for the game, seven minutes alone in the third quarter, as compared to Stanford's six minutes. On Saturday, the LaxCats used 11 first quarter goals to run away from the San Diego Aztecs, 26-1. Tri-Captain Josh Safra had a career-high eight goals and three assists to pace the team in the victory. "The defense stepped up, which is what we were looking for this year," Safra said. Next weekend, the LaxCats travel to Northern California to take on No. 3 ranked Sonoma State and No. 8 California-Davis.
