The Arizona men's club lacrosse team is expected to be ranked No. 1 for the first time in its 22-year history in today's Western Collegiate Lacrosse League Coaches' Poll.

The Wildcats should get the ranking by virtue of their weekend win over No. 2 Stanford and a loss by top-ranked Whittier to UC-Santa Barbara.

"Most of the league teams are in California, so coaches have a tendency to vote for them first, (which) makes attaining that ranking that much harder," said head coach Mickey-Miles Felton on Sunday, after his team's 11-7 victory over Stanford.

In the WCLL preseason poll that was released on Sept. 7, the Laxcats were ranked fourth. They were trailing Whittier College, Chapman College and Sonoma State University, all of whom are from California.

The Laxcats head to California this weekend to play No. 3 Sonoma State and No. 8 University of California at Davis.

They play Sonoma on Saturday and Davis Sunday.

This is the Laxcats' first road trip of the season where they will have to play back-to-back games.

"We (against Stanford) were ahead 7-1, and then (we) relaxed, lost our concentration and focus in the game, which is something that we're going to have to work on because we're going to have to play back-to-back games later in the season," Felton said.

The women's lacrosse team will also see home action this weekend against Loyola Marymount University on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Rincon Vista Sports Complex.

On Sunday, the team will hold a 2-mile fun run, with part of the proceeds going towards Casa de los Ninos. The run begins at 9 a.m. People interested in signing-up for the event can do so on the Mall tomorrow from 11-2 p.m.
