A male student was cited on a charge of theft Wednesday after it was discovered he possessed a missing Zone 1 parking permit, university police reports stated.

Police responded to the University Services Building, 888 E. Euclid Ave., where the student, Kurt B. Ameln, 20, of the 4000 block of North Gerhart Road, told officers that he had bought the permit for $50 from a man in one of his classes last semester.

Ameln told police the man had a letter on Parking and Transportation Services letterhead that stated the man had permission to sell the permit because he no longer needed it. Ameln did not have a copy of the letter, police reports stated.

Ameln took police to his 1988 Volkswagen GTI parked in Lot 2119 near the intersection of East Helen Street and North Vine Avenue, where police confiscated the permit. Ameln was cited and released at the scene.


A female student reported Thursday that a threatening message was left on her answering machine at Graham-Greenlee Residence Hall, 610 N. Highland Ave.

The student told university police she received the message between 11 p.m. and midnight Wednesday.

The message stated, "Hey (name withheld), you fucking bitch. What the fuck's your problem? You call that boy again you'll get the fucking shaft. I swear to God I'll kill you."

The student told university police she thought it may be her ex-boyfriend, with whom she had recently broken up.

Police tried to contact the ex-boyfriend, but he was not home.

Police took the answering machine's microcassette that recorded the message into evidence.


A female student reported Thursday that her bicycle was stolen and her U-lock was damaged at the Sigma Kappa sorority house, 1125 N. Vine Ave.

The student told university police she locked her Scorpio mountain bike to a gate on the west side of the sorority house Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. When she returned Thursday at 2:30 p.m., the bike was gone and the U-lock had been cut.

The bike was valued at $250. The damage to the U-lock was valued at $35.


A male student reported his bicycle and cable lock were stolen Wednesday from outside the Chemistry and Biological Sciences building, 1340 E. University Blvd.

The student told university police he locked his KZ mountain bike to a bike rack with a cable lock at 11:30 a.m. When he returned at 1 p.m., the bike and lock were gone.

The value of the bike and cable lock was unknown.


A female student reported her bicycle and metal chain lock missing Wednesday from outside McClelland Hall, 1130 E. Helen St.

The student told university police she locked her Trek 800 Antelope bicycle to a bike rack with a metal chain lock at 8 a.m. When she returned at 11 a.m., the bike and lock were missing.

The value of the bike and lock was unknown.
