Police Beat

Two female students were cited on theft charges within a ten-minute period Tuesday after Parking and Transportation Services employees reported stolen parking permits in the students' vehicles.

A Parking and Transportation employee told university police at the University Services Building, 888 N. Euclid Ave., that Leslie L. Adams, 19, a resident of Navajo-Pinal-Sierra Hall, 1557 E. Sixth St., had an immobilizing "boot" placed on her vehicle for excessive citations and a stolen permit displayed.

Adams told police she obtained the permit when she was on a trip to Nogales. She said she met a man who told her he was graduating and would not need the permit.

Police reports stated that Adams did not give the man money for the permit.

Adams was cited on a charge of theft of services and released at the scene.

A Parking and Transportation employee then told police another student was in the building's lobby who also had excessive citations and a confirmed stolen permit in her vehicle.

The student, Cammi L. Randall, a resident of Graham-Greenlee Hall, 610 N. Highland Ave., told police she got the permit from a "friend of a friend."

Randall was cited on a charge of theft of services and released at the scene.

Police have cited five other students since Feb. 26 on theft charges related to recovered stolen parking permits.

A man was arrested on a theft charge and for an outstanding warrant Monday after he was seen trying to steal a bike near the Comstock House, 1451 N. Warren Ave., police reports stated.

A Tucson man told university police he exited the University Medical Center cafeteria and saw another man trying to steal his bike.

The man, later identified as Teddy F. Wabich, 42, of a general delivery address, was attempting to cut the bike's cable lock with bolt cutters, police reports stated.

The Tucson man told police his bike was locked to a tree at the northwest corner of North Warren and Ring Road. He said he approached Wabich, and Wabich walked to his own bike, unlocked it and started to leave. The man then stopped Wabich and a bystander called police.

Wabich told police he was trying to steal the bike so he could sell it for food money, police reports stated.

After a records check, police discovered Wabich had a warrant for failure to appear in court on a traffic violation.

Wabich was arrested on a charge of attempted theft of less than $250. He was transported to Pima County Jail and released by pre-trial services.

A UA male employee reported a framed picture missing Tuesday from Room 530A in the Education building, 1430 E. Second St.

The employee told university police that when he left the room Monday at 7 p.m., the 15-by-20-inch framed photocopy of an 1898 dollar bill was on the wall. When he returned at 8:45 p.m., the picture was gone.

The employee told police the door to Room 530 was unlocked, but the door to the inner room was locked.

The framed picture was valued at $70.

Two male students reported harassing phone calls Tuesday to their room in Coronado Residence Hall, 822 E. Fifth St.

One of the students told university police that between Feb. 23 at 9 p.m. and Tuesday at 10:30 p.m., he and his roommate had received about 40 "unwanted" phone calls.

The student told police that several unknown people had apparently obtained various pager numbers, called those numbers and directed the calls to his room.

According to police reports, the phone rang 15 times while police spoke with the student.

Police advised the student to call the phone company if the calls continue.

A male UA employee reported a tool bag and its contents stolen Monday from a Facilities Management truck parked behind Manzanita-Mohave Residence Hall, 1000 N. Park Ave.

The employee told university police he parked the truck in the alley between the residence hall and the Fine Arts Complex.

The employee told police he went to another project and needed the tools, but they were gone when he went to get them. He said the tools were kept unsecured in a black canvas bag in the truck's bed.

The bag was valued at about $50 and the miscellaneous tools at about $150.

The employee also reported his staff identification card missing. It was of unknown value.
