'Wildcat' endorsements show bias

Editor:

As an avid Daily Wildcat reader, normally I am pleased by the unbiased reporting by its journalists. But, it is amazing how fast that has changed.

What in the hell were your ASUA "endorsements" all about? I was very disappointed in the journalistic skills portrayed in this article (Wildcat, Monday). The author(s) chose their favorite candidates and beefed them up, all the while destroying the other candidates. If this were a column, the individual author(s) could be blamed for their idiocy and lack of compassion. However, several times you noted that the "endorsements" were the result of a joint consensus. Tell me, did you round up EVERYONE on the ENTIRE staff to write this article, or were your "endorsements" merely the opinions of a select few of your self-proclaimed geniuses? I agree that Mr. Davidson and Ms. Taylor deserve to be elected, but this is still no reason to bash their opponents. Also, how about other senatorial candidates such as Ms. Lyons and Mr. Kennedy? Do they not deserve recognition? How about the other candidates? Were they not good enough for your superiority?

I am sick of reporters trying to look like good journalists by trying to destroy a candidate's reputation in front of his or her peers. If the author(s) is such a bad-ass with all of the right answers, why didn't he/she run? As reporters, you are supposed to depict facts, not begin a personal fan club.

Also, less than 50 students out of a school of 35,000+ had the courage and dedication to run for ASUA offices. So where do your reporters derive their pleasure by trying to demean these candidates as much as possible? These hard-working candidates should be praised... each and every one. They sacrificed their own time and up to $300 of their own money... all for the sole purpose of trying to better their school.

Politicians are easy targets for reporters because they are constantly in the limelight. But, until the time that these reporters can come up with all the answers and are not afraid to stick their necks out and run for office, why don't they just back off?
