For the second time in three days, UA Parking and Transportation Services has found extra parking spaces painted in Lot 6090 south of Hopi Residence Hall, 1440 E. Fourth St. Mike Delahanty, program coordinator for University of Arizona Parking and Transportation Services, said that Wednesday evening somebody created the illegal spaces in Lot 6090. The spaces were blacked out Thursday by Parking and Transportation employees who mixed paints to match the existing pavement, Delahanty said. However, he said that Friday morning 13 illegal parking spaces in the lot were reported to Parking and Transportation. The 13 spaces included four spaces south of Hopi Lodge, five spaces north of the basketball courts on the west side of Arizona Stadium a nd four spaces on the east end of Lot 6090. Delahanty said the lines of the created spaces were crooked and smaller than the standard 4-inch lines that Parking and Transportation uses. "You could tell that it wasn't work that we would do," he said. Parking and Transportation will finish blacking out the fake spaces today, Delahanty said. He said the area looks as though it has enough room for extra spaces, but the extra space has been designated for right-of-ways and turn areas. Delahanty said the first incident cost Parking and Transportation about $90, but the latest incident will cost them more because more space was damaged. Lt. Brian Seastone, a UA Police Department spokesman, said the person or persons painting the extra spaces could face charges of criminal damage as well as interference with the peaceful conduct of an educational institution if they are caught.
