Letter-writer's attacks unfounded, hypocritical

Editor:

This letter is in response to an editorial written by Robert A. Gatterer. Robert presumes that the members of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity lack any pride in what they do and in their house. Our members' pride can not be judged by their cleaning skills, but rather by their true accomplishments. We have several members in different honoraries, Associated Students of the UA Senate, and the past ASUA Vice President of Programs. Pride is something that can not be seen, it is felt, and it is within every member of PIKE.

As far as your comment regarding the cleanliness of our house, you wrote, "Beer cans, wine bottles (which were actually 40-oz.), pizza boxes ... strewn about." Yes, our house is not as clean as it can be, but there is a legitimate reason. The past week we have been the victims of two "eggings" and two sororities have "raided" our house. Now, if you were aware of this, and then witnessed the members cleaning the house without the urging of the university, than perhaps your opinion would change.

His letter proved another overwhelming fact: how blatantly anti-Greek the Wildcat is. Within this semester I have notified the newspaper three times of philanthropy events that my house is hosting or participating in. Instead of giving us and the Greek community some positive coverage, they continue to only mention us in Police Beat, and other negative stories. Perhaps there is a correlation between the diminishing rush members and the coverage you give the Greek community.

The fact that Robert is an alumni of the Aggie house and accuses us of lacking professionalism is ridiculous. The house that he so boldly admits he is a member of, was recently involved in an incident were they stuffed a dead cow down another Fraternity's chimney, now that shows professionalism and pride.

Robert's editorial highlights not so much the faults of my fraternity, but rather the monotonous trend that the Wildcat follows. UA has the largest Greek system on the West coast; this is something to be proud of, not something to belittle. Giddy up Cowboy!
