Police Beat

Two male students reported electronic equipment missing Friday from their vehicles parked near Sigma Chi fraternity house, 1616 E. First St.

The first student told university police he parked his 1991 Honda and locked both doors Thursday at 10:30 p.m. When he returned Friday at 3 p.m., he found his Kenwood compact disc player valued at $400 was gone.

Another student told police he parked his 1990 Acura Thursday at 6:30 p.m. When he returned Friday at 2 p.m., he found his passenger side door closed but unlocked and his Alpine CD player and 17 CDs missing.

The student told police the door was forced open, damaging the door paneling.

The values of the door's damage and the CD player were unknown. The 17 CDs were valued at $275.


A 16-year-old male was arrested on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia Saturday at Texaco, 501 N. Park Ave.

University police reports stated that police saw a 15-year-old male acting suspiciously at 3:10 a.m. on the south side of the Texaco. When police approached the male, they also found the 16-year-old.

The 15-year-old told police the two boys were "getting some tacos" at the Taco Bell Express inside the Texaco.

Police reports stated the 16-year-old had a backpack, which the boy allowed police to search.

Police found a Sucrets box inside the backpack, which the 16-year-old said had "some seeds and stems and stuff" in it. Police found "several marijuana seeds and stems and three used brass screens" inside of the box, according to police reports.

Both boys admitted to smoking marijuana four to five hours before police came in contact with them, police reports stated. The boys told police they had smoked from a "brass fitting pipe," which they had lost on the bicycle ride to the Texaco station.

Police arrested the 16-year-old and transported both boys to their homes. The 16-year-old was released to his mother, the 15-year-old to his grandparents.

Police placed the Sucrets container with the seeds into property.


A male UA employee reported a computer stolen Friday from Room 430 of the Harvill Building, 1103 E. Second St.

The employee told university police he locked the room Thursday at 5 p.m. with the computer inside. When he returned Friday at 7:40 a.m., the computer was gone and the outside window to the room was open.

The employee told police the computer was the only part missing, not the monitor.

According to police reports, the room's outside metal window frame was damaged.

Police recovered one fingerprint from the room.

The computer was valued at $2,358.83.

Police advised the employee to call Facilities Management to get the window fixed.


A male student reported the right rear passenger side window broken Friday on his vehicle parked outside of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity house, 1420 N. Vine Ave.

The student told university police he parked his 1987 Jeep Cherokee at 1:30 a.m. in the lot north of the fraternity house. When he returned to his vehicle at 7 a.m., he found the rear passenger window smashed and a gray cement block lying on the driver's seat.

Police reports stated that the block had been "thrown hard." Reports also stated that the car next to the student's had a gouge mark on the driver's side window.

The value of the damage was unknown.


A male student reported that he saw a man damage the driver's side rear-view mirrors of two vehicles Friday in the 1700 block of East University Boulevard.

The student told university police he saw a man riding a bicycle eastbound on University Boulevard about 10:10 p.m. The student told police that as the man rode past two cars, he struck the driver's side mirrors, damaging them.

The student told police he overheard the man say something about "endangering his life."

The student followed the man and last saw him riding eastbound on East Speedway Boulevard.

The value of the damage to the two vehicles was unknown.
