Strum Arizona Daily Wildcat March 24, 1997 Faculty Senate chooses new members and chairThe Faculty Senate ended its month-long election process Tuesday with the election of 20 senators, several committee members and a new chairman.Jerrold Hogel, professor of English, will replace John Schwarz, political science professor, as the chair of the Senate. Hogel defeated Lawrence Aleamoni, educational psychology professor. Nine of the 20 senators were newly elected. They are: Anne Atwater, associate department head of physiology; Roger Caldwell, soil and water science professor; Billie Raye Erlings, music professor; Susan Heckler, acting head of marketing; Wanda Howell, nutritional sciences assistant professor; Glen Miller, agricultural education associate professor; Shitala Mishra, special education professor; Ian Pepper, soil and water science professor and Roy Spece Jr., law professor. The 11 re-elected senators are: Aleamoni; James Clarke, political science professor; Julie Erickson, nursing assistant professor; Raphael Gruener, physiology professor; Larry Schooley, electrical and computer engineering professor; Miklos Szilagyi, electrical and computer engineering professor; Timothy Troy, librarian at the Center for Creative Photography; Marlys Witte, surgery professor; and Malcolm Zwolinski, renewable natural resources professor. The Committee of Eleven had five seats up for election. They were won by: Aleamoni, Erlings, Heckler, Robert Feltham, chemistry professor emeritus, and Andrew Silverman, clinical instructor of law. The committee on Academic Freedom and Tenure filled four seats: Jeffrey Haskell, music professor; Juan Heinrich, aerospace and mechanical engineering professor; Donna Iams, family and consumer resources associate professor; and Allan Matthias, soil and water science associate professor. Senate elections take place every two years and the terms run through May.
