Two men were arrested on warrants, and another on a weapons charge, March 15 after a car they were in was stopped for almost hitting a pedestrian, university police reports stated.

Police were at East Speedway Boulevard and North Campbell Avenue about 12:30 a.m. when they saw a 1981 Cadillac nearly hit a pedestrian while turning southbound onto Campbell Avenue.

Police stopped the car at East Third Street and Campbell and found through a records check that the driver had "shot at police before," police reports stated.

The driver told police he did not have any weapons and told police they could search the car if they wanted.

While police watched the front seat passenger, Frederick L. Nichols, 22, of the 1000 block of East 34th Street, exited the car, and officers saw a gun on the car's floor between Nichols' legs, police reports stated.

Police then conducted a "high-risk style" exit of the two passengers in the back seat, a 21-year-old unidentified Tucson man, of the 700 block of East 39th Street, and Curtiss C. Williams, 21, of the 3400 block of North Stone Avenue.

Police reports listed the unidentified man's name as "John Doe" because the man gave police three different names.

Weapons were not found on the unidentified man and Williams, but police found a revolver under the a front seat, accessible only by the passenger in the rear, which was the side where the unidentified man was sitting, police reports stated. Reports stated the unidentified man later admitted the revolver was his.

After a records check of Nichols and Williams, police found both had warrants on charges of unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful acts regarding alcohol, police reports stated.

Police arrested Nichols and Williams on the warrants and the unidentified man on a charge of weapons misconduct.

The unidentified man was booked into Pima County Jail. Nichols and Williams were released by Pretrial Services. The driver was released at the scene.
