Hundreds of Arizona fans react in the final seconds of Arizona's 84-79 overtime win over Kentucky in the NCAA championship last night at O'Malley's On Fourth. Thousands of people stopped traffic for several hours while celebrating on Fourth Avenue between Sixth Street and Congress Street.

Unreal ... Unbelievable ... Unimaginable ... Take your pick.

I prefer amazing.

I've never felt like I had 30,000 family members, but last night on Fourth Avenue it was like one big family party. I've never given more high fives and hugs to people that I have never met. It was one big show of love for the National Champion Wildcats.

Let's say it again because it feels so good: Arizona is No. 1.

In a 10-day span, Arizona did what had never been done before: it defeated three No. 1 seeds. Consider that those No. 1 seeds - Kentucky, North Carolina and Kansas - are the three winningest college basketball programs of all-time and you begin to see why last night was so special.

I saw it all last night. Naked people, drunk people, stoned people, soaked people, bloody people. It was the most beautiful assembly of fans that I've ever seen.

But what impressed me the most was the restraint shown by the fans. Last night could have turned into "Trash Fourth Avenue Night," but for the most part it wasn't. It was good, clean fun. And that's the best kind.

Oddly enough, of all the revelers out on the streets last night the Wildcat staffers had to be among the nuttiest. One was buck-naked on Fourth. My copy editor was hanging from a light pole and I saw a little more of one female staffer than I ever thought I would.

The Arizona football team started a mosh pit. I chose not to join in. I'm a big man, but I'm not stupid.

When the Wildcats return to Arizona Stadium today, things could get hairy again. That is, of course, if everybody can make bail.

Oh, an it's nice to see a sports team from the state of Arizona that doesn't choke with the national title is on the line.

Congratulations guys, you earned it.

Wildcat sports editor Craig Degel thinks this is quite possibly the coolest thing that's ever happened to UA.
