Student injured in 3-car collision near campus

A UA student was injured yesterday in a three-vehicle collision on East Sixth Street, just southeast of the UA campus.

The student, Rebecca Lilleberg, age unknown, of the 3200 block of East Fort Lowell Road, suffered injuries to her left arm and sternum, a Tucson Police Department officer at the scene said.

A white Honda Civic crashed into Lilleberg's red Dodge Neon about 5:30 p.m., raising the back of her car 75 degrees off the ground.

"There was a lot of traffic and no room to stop," TPD Officer Paul Sayre said.

A third car was also involved in the crash. Miguel Escobedo, a Pima Community College student, said he was driving in front of the red car when he heard a loud sound. His car, a yellow Grand Marquis, was also hit.

"It was a lot of cars packed like sardines," Escobedo said.

Escobedo said the red car stopped but the white one didn't.

A woman was driving the white car with a male passenger. Neither wanted to be identified by name and their names were not available from police last night.

"Her foot slipped off the brakes and she didn't have enough time to stop," the male passenger said. "The car in front of us stopped pretty quickly."

A woman who resides in the neighborhood told police officers that Sixth Street has been busy since Arizona's basketball victory over Kentucky Monday night.
