What's Going On...

Tonight:

Ahh... Spring. Chirping birds, Easter bunnies, "The Influence of Sensory Axons on the Development of Sexually Dimorphic Olfactory Glomeruli in 'Manduca Sexta,'" a lecture by Wolfgang Roessler... It's an informal discussion of past, present, and future reasearch open to anyone involved in all areas of neuroscience and, other biological sciences. All are welcome to attent the meeting, which occures today between noon and 1:00 p.m. in Gould-Simpson room 601. Call 621-8384 for more info.

Friday:

The Gallagher schedule looks pretty good this season. The bizarre and somewhat controversial Woody Allen musical, "Everybody Says I Love You" shows on campus tonight through Monday, with screenings at 7:30 and 9:30 p.m.

Saturday:

Arizona has an expressionist film scene? Local filmmakers Ted Hardin ("Humanity"), and Penelope Price/Monica Ross ("Dinner") exhibit their skills at The Screening Room this Saturday. Admission is $4 and showings occur at 8:00 and 10:00 p.m. A quick call to 622-2262 will get you more details.

Sunday:

There seem to be a lot of benefits lately, and there are two this Sunday. You can actually catch both if you want - The Tucson Kitchen Musicians' Association is cookin' up a whole lotta fun at The Valley of the Moon from noon to 6:00 p.m. Featured bands include Rainer, Milkseed, and Catacousticgroove, and all proceeds benefit the Twelfth Annual Tucson Folk Festival. If you haven't seen The Valley, you need to check it out - it's a wierd artificial concrete moonscape located at 2544 E. Allen Road (north on Tucson Boulevard, two blocks past Prince Road). Tickets are $5 and if you need more information, call 323-2138... You shouldn't have any trouble locating Upstair$-Aid, an evening of film and music to benefit Upstairs Theatre Company, the group that brought us "Jeffrey" and "Suburbia." Festivities kick off at 7:30 p.m. with a screening of "Number 13" and "The Edge of Evening" - two more films by local filmmakers. Then comes the rock 'n' roll - The Drakes, Bargain Town, allison's halo, and The Osgoods play at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door.

Upcoming:

Those rumors you've been hearing about 311 playing Spring Fling aren't true. It's possible that people got confused - Medeski Martin and Wood play the Arizona Ballroom in the Student Union on Tuesday, April 8. Possible, but not probable. They're a jazz trio, and while they groove as hard as 311, it's hard to see any point of comparison. You need to see this show. Tickets are $8 for students, and $10 for non-students and highschool kids.
