What's Going On...

Tonight:

Free food? Only if you're a grad student, I'm afraid. The first 600 students who show up to the 2nd Annual Graduate/Professional Student Big Feed on the Mall get their choice of burgers, chicken, or veggie burgers. It's happening between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. But wait, that's not all! You can also get into the Friday's free midnight showing of "Young Frankenstein" at the Gallagher theater. Bring a can of food, a date and your student I.D.

Phun with a "ph"... Oh, it must be Physics Phun Night. See a professor lie on a bed of nails and have a cement block broken upon him! Witness explosions, burning bubbles, and dancing flames. Thrill to the magical power of SCIENCE! It all goes down at 7:30 p.m. in PAS 201, and what's more... it's phree.

Friday:

Happy Baisakhi to all you Sikh Dharma students... This is also, coincidentally, the last night to catch Madonna's "Evita" on the big screen at our own Gallagher theater. Show times are 7:30 and 10:05 p.m.

Also going on Friday is the noon dedication of "Life Struggle," the newest metal sculpture in front of the library. The sculpture has been described as "a somewhat literal interpretation exhibiting a geometrical form seemingly of a right angle that has been cut from a massive chunk which has been twisted and pulled apart in an organic gesture." Maybe you can ask its creator, Ted Springer, what it all means...

Saturday:

Cartoon violence has never been sweeter... Jackie Chan's wondrous "First Strike" begins its run at Gallagher this Saturday. Showings are 7:30 and 9:20 p.m. If you like good action movies, this is one you really shouldn't miss.

Sunday:

More than 20 glass artists will be on hand to demonstrate their skills at glass blowing, flame working, reverse painting on glass, fire bucket glass making, bead makers, glass casting and more at the Arts Oasis, on the northwest corner of campus. Also, the Third Annual Family Day at the Center for Creative Photography will feature guided tours, hands-on exploration of camera obscura projections and a special display of photographs by young local artists. It's all going on between 1:00 and 5:00 p.m.

Upcoming:

You've seen 'em wandering around handing out flyers for their show at Cluck-U Chicken... Jensing is actually working pretty hard at the whole promotion thing. To that effect, they'll be playing an Eat to the Beat show in the Cellar at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, with all Eat to the Beat shows, it's free.. Also Tuesday at the Cellar: Issac Green and the Skalars with Dave's Big Deluxe. Show time is 8:00 p.m.
