An overabundance of school spirit can be too much of a good thingEditor:I couldn't agree more with Fernando C. Alvarez's Tuesday letter decrying the injustice of requiring students to attend classes during the recent welcome-home rally for the Wildcats basketball team ("Holding classes Tuesday lacked spirit"). What kind of message do those idiot administrators think they're sending by requiring classes to go on during a party? You'd almost think this was an educational facility or something. Alvarez closes his letter by wishing for "a little more enthusiasm towards promoting school spirit." Again, I agree that "school spirit" is a priceless part of a university education. Perhaps the administration could help promote school spirit by canceling afternoon classes every other Friday during football season, so we can all have a pep rally in the gym. Or maybe administrators and faculty could challenge each other to see who could cheer louder: "We've got spirit, yes we do! We've got spirit, how about you!" Once we've instituted these changes, I'd like to talk to the administration about this great idea I have for converting a couple of floors of the Main Library into a sports bar...
