By Andrew Carrol Arizona Daily Wildcat April 11, 1997 Laxcats travel to Santa Barbara for final league playoff tuneupWith the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League playoffs just two weeks away, the Arizona men's lacrosse team will make its final push tomorrow against UC-Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara, Calif."(We) need to get back to our winning ways and look towards the playoffs," Laxcats head coach Mickey-Miles Felton said. After a 22-16 loss to Chapman a week ago in Tucson, the Laxcats (9-3, 9-2 in the WCLL Southern Division) need a big win on the road. "The team has had a good week of practice and we are ready to move on. The loss is behind us," Felton said. UCSB has secured the top seed in the WCLL's Northern Division and will host Santa Clara in two weeks in one of the quarterfinal matches. Last week the Gauchos (9-2 in the WCLL Northern Division) lost to Sonoma, 12-8. The Laxcats will be on the road for the next four weeks. Their quarterfinal match is at Chapman in Anaheim, Calif. next Saturday. With a win, they will advance to the WCLL Championships the following week in San Diego. Wildcat rugby hosts New Mexico St. tomorrow The Arizona's men's club rugby team (13-2) kicks off at 11 a.m. against the Aggies at Estavan Park (Speedway and Main St.). The match is a final tune-up for the playoff-bound Wildcats, who travel to Berkeley, Calif. next weekend to play in the West Regional. Arizona leads the series 25-7-1, winning the last meeting, 28-7 at the 1996 Memorial Invitational. |
