Spring Fling is 'becoming a dinosaur'

Editor:

I was completely shocked and in disbelief, Spring Fling is just not what it was intended for, nor what it used to be. With the recent financial woes of Spring Fling, the organizers have apparently decided that money for them is all that is needed. From the first year I attended (1992) to this year I am shocked at what has happened. The clubs are being pushed to the side for commercial vendors to make money rather than the clubs. Wasn't Spring Fling originally designed for the clubs? This year most clubs were stuck sharing a commercial both and not only splitting the money amongst the two or three clubs forced to share but also with the commercial vendor and ASUA.

What is the point of this carnival that is touted as the "largest?" It is the same carnival as the Pima County Fair, for those of you wondering, the two are organized so that RCS (the commercial vendor company) can set up at the UA and then next weekend at the Pima County Fair. To make matters worse, the Spring Fling committee thought it would be better to not have a band, hell they even forgot about the stage. From the looks of it this carnival is probably becoming a dinosaur and should be put out of its misery now. The money that is wasted could be better spent - look at the poor club sports and their fight for more money - they cannot only no longer look to Spring Fling to make money, but now can look at it as the reason why they are getting less and less money from ASUA.
